7th Air Force

Welcome to the internet site of the 494th Bomb Group (Heavy) Association.   This site was established for the purpose of providing an online source of information about the 494th Bomb Group(H), the men that served within the Group during World War II, and the 494th Bomb Group(H) Association.

Within the site you will find historical information about "Kelley's Kobras", Squadron Rosters, and a listing of Association members.  As the site develops, we will be adding crew and plane pictures with the hopes of reaching out to veterans, family members and friends that we may have lost contact with through the years, as well as provide a source of material about the Group for researchers.

Follow the links within the categories below to enter the areas indicated.  If you, or someone you know served in the 494th, let us hear from you by signing the Guest Book, or send an E-Mail to: CharleyWilcox  @  494thBombGroup.com   If you are searching for someone that was associated with the 494th, check the Rosters located on the Member, Headquarters and Squadron pages, or use the Pico Search tool further down the page.  If you have updated or recent information about "Inactive" members, please pass it along so that we can keep our information as accurate as possible.  Stop back often and check for new and updated features on the site.

The Florida State University Institute on WWII contains archival information for the 494th Bomb Group (H).  The Institute's Director is Dr. William Oldson.  You can visit their site here:

We have received several requests for information on how to obtain a copy of one of the hardcover versions of "The History of the 494th Bombardment Group(H)".  Randy Faerber has done a great job of researching the issue, and provides some suggestions here:

-Please Note-

There are certain individuals that scan Guest Books and Message Boards on web pages such as ours in order to "farm" legitimate e-mail addresses.    They will then mass-mail to these addresses in an attempt to draw you into various pay-in-advance schemes, in our case, most likely related to the military.

With this in mind, when posting information to our Guest Book, please be aware of the type of information you place there.  Do not post your (or others) home addresses or telephone numbers.  It is O.K. to post your e-mail address if you like, but please be wary of unsolicited e-mail that you may receive from unknown individuals, no matter how "official-looking" it may be.  Remember the old adage:  "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is".

If you are not comfortable posting your e-mail address, try setting up an address through one of the free services such as "Yahoo, Hotmail, or Bigfoot".  You can then use that address like a Post Office Box to screen your mail.  If you receive any "questionable" e-mail, offering pay-for type services, please feel free to pass them along to me, and I will check them out and report on their legitimacy.       Thank you.                       -Ray Sestak-
